The approach
A portfolio visitor usually needs to understand your role, the work and the outcome quickly. Use 3D to introduce a visual idea or explain a project, while keeping case studies and contact details easy to find. The navigation should not become a puzzle.
Connect the scene to the case study
Choose an object that belongs to the project: packaging, a device, a spatial prototype or a small identity element. Put the project title, your contribution and the case-study link in normal page content. Avoid forcing visitors to explore a full 3D world just to locate the work.
Make the first interaction optional
A small hover response can invite exploration, but keyboard and touch users still need visible links. In Orbital, work on the scene and its motion separately from the host portfolio’s navigation. Test the opening state before testing the more elaborate interactions.
A workflow to start with
List the projects and contact actions that must be visible immediately.
Create one scene that supports a featured project.
Keep the project summary and case-study link outside the canvas.
Review the portfolio with a phone and with the 3D section unavailable.
Start with a specific request.
Create a quiet editorial composition around one object from this project. Keep the center-left area clear for the project title. Use a restrained material palette and a stable camera, with an optional subtle hover response.
Use this as a brief for scene work or AI assistance. Inspect the result in the editor; available AI tools depend on your account and plan. Before you publish
- Visitors can reach every case study without operating the scene.
- Your role and contact link remain visible in HTML.
- The page is useful on a low-powered phone.
Common questions
Should every project have a live 3D embed?
Use live scenes when interaction explains the work. A still or video may be more appropriate for other projects.
Can a portfolio be impressive without a large scene?
Yes. A strong composition, clear work and a small purposeful interaction can communicate craft effectively.
